The programme combines advanced English language training (C1–C2) with linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and systematic training in translation and interpreting. It emphasizes precision, professional ethics, and work with modern translation tools in real communication situations.
About the Programme
The programme develops English to C1–C2 level and integrates linguistics (phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicology) with literature and cultural studies. Its core focuses on both specialised and literary translation, consecutive interpreting, and terminology creation, complemented by work with CAT tools and academic writing.
What You Will Learn
- Language C1–C2 phonetics and phonology, morphology 1–2, lexicology, syntax, pronunciation varieties of English; development of writing and style in academic discourse.
- Translation and interpreting fundamentals of specialised translation and text analysis, technical and tourism translation, basics of literary translation; training in consecutive interpreting and note-taking.
- Literature and culture British and American literature, literary theory, chapters from world literature; cultural studies and realia of the UK, USA, and Slovakia.
- Practice and technologies work with CAT tools, creation of terminological glossaries, practical exercises and internships, research projects, and thesis seminars.

Technologies in Translation
Training includes CAT tools, creation and management of terminological glossaries, work with corpora, and post-editing specifics. Students practise the methodology of preparation, translation, revision, and delivery of assignments in accordance with professional practice and competencies defined by ISO 17100 (linguistic, textual, cultural, technical, terminological, and research competence).
Graduate Profile
- advanced proficiency in English (C1–C2) with strong command of grammar, lexis, and register; ability to express oneself appropriately in style,
- ability to apply translation strategies and procedures in specialised, tourism, and literary translation with due regard for ethics,
- competence in consecutive interpreting including note-taking and error-recovery strategies,
- command of CAT tools, glossary creation, and editing/post-editing procedures,
- ability to independently analyse texts, conduct research, and argue within academic writing.
Career Opportunities for Graduates
Graduates work in translation agencies, companies, media and cultural institutions, in localization and LSP teams, or as freelance professionals.

This programme must be combined with the Translation and Interpreting Studies Core and one of the following languages: French, German, Slovak, Russian, Ukrainian.
