Academic staff are actively engaged in both fundamental and applied research across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Key research areas include:

  • Literary studies, Slovak language and culture,

  • General and applied linguistics, language acquisition and child speech,

  • Slavic and non-Slavic languages and cultures (English, German, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian),

  • Classical languages and their cultural legacy,

  • Translation studies and interpreting studies – theory and practice,

  • Philosophy, ethics, bioethics, aesthetics,

  • Psychology, social work, political science, media and communication, history.

Our faculty operates several specialized research centers and laboratories, such as:

  • the Phonetic Laboratory (Institute of Slovak and Media Studies),

  • the Psychological Computer Laboratory (Institute of Psychology),

  • the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Excellence,

  • the Centre for Senior Education and Research.

Research outputs are regularly published in prestigious domestic and international journals, presented at scientific conferences, and directly integrated into teaching and academic practice. Our researchers are also actively involved in public discourse as expert consultants, interpreters, translators, and policy advisors.

International cooperation is a cornerstone of our research strategy. We maintain strong academic partnerships with institutions across Europe and beyond. We promote student and staff mobility, international conference participation, and joint research projects, ensuring that the results of our work have a global impact.

By fostering a culture of responsible research, intergenerational respect, and academic excellence, the Faculty of Arts continues to inspire the next generation of scholars and contribute meaningfully to both knowledge and society.
