From the Department of Slavonic Studies (1993) to the present Institute of Central European Studies (2019)
The history of the Institute of Central European Studies dates back to 1993, to the Department of Slavonic Studies, which was organizationally separated from the Department of Slovak Language and Literature on 1 September 1993 and which was established as a special pedagogical and scientific department of the Faculty of Arts in Prešov of the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice. The Department of Slavonic Studies was part of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Prešov since 1997, and as part of the reorganization of the Faculty of Arts, it was integrated into the Institute of Russian, Ukrainian and Slavonic Studies on 1 September 2005, together with the Department of Russian Studies and Translatology and the Department of Ukrainian Studies. Since 2013, the Department of Slavonic Studies has been called the Department of Central European Studies, since January 2014 it has been part of the Institute of Ukrainian Studies and Central European Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the PU and since 1 June 2019 it has been an independent Institute of Central European Studies.
