WiFi network at Prešov University in Prešov

Notice: Users with Windows 7 may not be able to connect to eduroam due to the end of support

The technology wifis.jpgis used to wirelessly connect portable devices to a computer network.

WiFi networks of the following standardized network identifiers SSID ) are in operation:

  • eduroam - ( edu cation roam ing) is an international project and roaming service providing network connectivity for its users in all connected organizations around the world.
Secure login is based on a hierarchical network of RADIUS servers, where authentication always takes place at the user's home location. We recommend logging in using the form login@unipo.sk, where you can also log in to the eduroam network in other organizations involved in this project.
  • unipo-private  - an older  network that was  canceled on 1/1/2020 and was fully replaced by the EDUROAM network .
  • networks supporting services at the university

Use of the service:
To use the service, you must have a wireless client card ( 802.11a/b/g/n/ac ) in your device and be within range of a WiFi connection. The service must be configured in the operating system.

At the Prešov University in Prešov, the following is used for connection:
Company technology

Currently, the implementation of the project Ensuring continuous physical reproduction is completed

and the morally outdated information infrastructure of the WiFi network,  while on individual components

the university has a total of almost 300 WiFi access points installed.

The implementation part of the project using Ruckus technology was launched at the end of 2017 with the commissioning of central elements and the covering of PU buildings:

  • PU Rectorate , Ul. 17 November 15
  • Faculty of Management PU , Ul. Konstantinova 16

The modernization of the WiFi network continued in stages in all parts of the university, but mainly

with an emphasis on increasing the number of access points in  student dormitories and lecture rooms .

Deploying the new 802.11ac wireless networking technology for clients means, among other things, increased data throughput, extended signal range, more stable connection and improved security,
even on low-powered devices. On the side of system administrators, the technology from the given manufacturer offers clear tools for managing, optimizing and solving problems of the entire WiFi network from a central point and enables a more flexible response to the needs of future development.

The interestingness of the new Wifi access points Ruckus Networks is a modern use of the company's patented BeamFlex technology, which creates optimal antenna routing patterns for each device with which it communicates. Also thanks to this technology, the new Wi-Fi network fulfills the Internet connection requirements for hundreds of PU students and employees every day.

There is no need to change anything on the client devices compared to the older solution, the WiFi networks "EDUROAM", "UNIPO-GUEST" remain in operation. Likewise, the rules of access to the network and the policy of login accounts do not change.
