BA and MA programme
English Language and Culture with a Focus on Translation
Translation-oriented English studies: the programme combines linguistics, literary and cultural studies with intensive training in translation and interpreting.
- Advanced language training C1–C2: English phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicology, and pronunciation varieties of English.
- Translation and interpreting: technical, literary and tourism translation; work with CAT tools; training in consecutive interpreting.
- Literature and culture: British and American literature, literary theory; cultural studies and realia of the UK and USA.
- Academic skills: academic writing, text analysis, practical exercises, rhetoric and professional practice.
This programme needs to be combined with "Translation and Interpreting Studies Core" and one additional language.
BA and MA programme
Translation and Interpreting Studies Core
A comprehensive introduction to translation and interpreting: linguistic foundations, theory, practice, and technology in a single programme.
- Linguistic foundations: basics of Slovak linguistics, Slovak phonetics, orthoepy, morphology, syntax, and stylistics.
- Translation studies: theory and history of translation and interpreting; practical translation and interpreting in the laboratory.
- Modern technologies: training with modern translation and interpreting software; typing skills.
- Interdisciplinary scope: orientation in specialist fields (law, economics).
This programme is led in Slovak language and needs to combined with 2 additional languages of your own choice
