Curriculum vitae:

In 1997, she graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Humanities at the University of Prešov (music pedagogy - violin; in 2008, English language and literature)In 2001, she obtained a PhD in the field of 81-23-9 Theory and History of Music in her doctoral studies at the Institute of Musicology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. In 2013, she defended her scientific and pedagogical title of associate professor in the field of 2.1.6 Aesthetics with a habilitation lecture on the topic Problems of Aesthetics in the Works of Slovak Musicologists, Theorists and Historians of Music in the 20th Century. Since 2007, she has been working at the Institute of Aesthetics and Art Culture at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Prešov. She has extensive artistic and pedagogical experience in art education (Mikuláš Moyzes Elementary Art School, 1997–2009) and in professional performing arts (DJZ Singing Orchestra, 1994–2004). She occasionally performs as a chamber and orchestral musician (violin) in the performing arts and as a music critic.

Main areas and topics of scientific research:

Her scientific research focuses on examining the relationships between the history, theory and aesthetics of music, currently on the history of Slovak musical aesthetics (monograph The Development of Musical-Aesthetic Thinking in Slovakia in the 20th Century, 2013; Tobias Gottfried Schröer (1791 – 1850). Aesthetics as a Vision of a Better Human Being, 2021); the older history of regional musical culture, as well as musicological research into more recent Slovak music (monograph Ladislav Burlas, 2002; monograph Ladislav Burlas and Slovak Music Culture, 2017), certain theoretical and methodological problems (monograph A Word About Art Without Words. Musical-Aesthetic and Interdisciplinary Reflections, 2009) and methodological issues of music accessibility and reception (monograph On the Interrelation and Interpretation of Music and Other Artistic Media, 2011).

In his current teaching activities, he focuses on theoretical disciplines related to problems and methodology in the history of world and Slovak music, popular music, musical aesthetics, and the interpretation of musical works.

Slávka Kopčáková is the author of 10 monographs, 2 university textbooks and 2 university teaching texts for students of aesthetics, and more than 100 scientific studies published at home and abroad.
