The Regional Museum in Prešov
Festive installation of English exhibit texts took place on the 4th March 2014
On March 4, 2014, the translating project team led by Dr. Rázusová and Dr. Blahút was welcomed by the museum director Mgr. Latta, the deputy director Mgr. Lazorík and other staff members at the Festive Installation of the translated texts in the premises of the museum. Doc. Ferenčík, the Institute director, and project partners from the National University in Uzhhorod also paid a visit to the meeting. The participants of the meeting evaluated the project as a memorable learning experience and a beneficial activity for both sides.
The graduate students in English in Intercultural Practice translated the texts on history of firefighting, sheep farming, lace and weaponry and on peasants´ life in the Šariš region. The students had a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge learnt at school and contribute to the promotion of the V4 region cultural heritage by providing foreign museum visitors with English labels. Good quality translation was achieved also thanks to the thorough checking and correcting done by the native-speaking English editors, Jonathan Gresty, M.A. and Prof. John Selecky.
For the students it was their first valuable experience with real translation. No wonder that after a lot of searching, checking, double checking and rewriting they could not wait to finally see the results of their work. Some of the displays with English labels can be seen in the attached photos.
