BACHELOR’S DEGREE (Bc.)

Offered in Slovak language only, full-time form.

Biology

The graduate is competent to work in research teams specializing in biology and chemistry.                   

Ecology and Environmental Studies                       

The graduate is able to work in the field and in laboratory conditions and can correctly identify and take samples from assessed sites, store and process them. He has knowledge of ecology, botany, zoology, geography, natural resource protection and environmental science. He can be employed in various areas related to environmental protection issues, especially at various levels of specialized state administration, in environmental sectors, in the private sector and in water management. The graduate will be able to integrate into a team and lead an independent team for the design and implementation of landscape, ecological and environmental documentation. He can develop and manage an ecologically and environmentally focused project and will be able and competent to develop ecological and environmental studies (e.g., EIA), assessments and opinions concerning, e.g., environmental impact assessments, environmental risk assessments and favorable status of habitats and populations.                         

Geography and Applied Geoinformatics               

Graduates acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies which enable them to be widely employed in the labour market. They will be able to find employment in state administration, local and regional self-governments, and EU institutions, particularly in departments dealing with local and regional development, land-use planning, tourism, marketing and promotion, human resources, environmental protection and creation; in private expertise and projection practice, non-profit organizations, in development, marketing, real estate and travel agencies and offices, in public opinion research agencies, institutionalized clusters and the media. They will be prepared to start their own business in areas using geographic and geoinformatics expertise. Graduates may continue their study at the second level in the study programme and field of study Earth Sciences.               

Teacher Training                             

Graduates of the 1st stage level teacher training (Bc.) are acquainted with the fields of their subject specializations and possess pedagogical-psychological and information-communication competencies. They are qualified to pursue pedagogical professions in the rank of pedagogical assistants in the sub-rank of teacher assistants, educators in school and after-school educational establishments, state administration, and self-administration staff in education. They are prepared to continue their teacher training study at the Master's degree.

MASTER’S DEGREE (MSc/Mgr.)

Offered in Slovak language only, full-time form.

Biology

The standard load for a student is 60 credits per year. Graduate is competent to work in research teams specializing in biology and chemistry, he is competent to perform independent scientific-research activities at workplaces of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, universities, in the health care sector, agriculture, forestry, food industry, environment, state administration, self-government, etc. He/she may also use his/her potential in solving environmental-ecological problems in field research and in private companies.                 

Ecology and Environmental Studies

The graduate is an expert in ecology, ecosystems, biodiversity protection, nature, landscape and the care of protected areas. He is proficient in scientific research methods (both basic and applied). He can creatively apply scientific knowledge, solve human-nature conflict situations and verify various ecological hypotheses. He has practical experience gained through internships and student work experience in state institutions, private sector, as well as non-governmental organizations. The graduate is able to work and manage working groups (field and laboratory), can appropriately identify and take samples, store them, process the obtained data and evaluate and interpret them correctly. The graduate is employed in management functions of nature and landscape protection, in scientific research institutions, in international cooperation of protected areas and at universities.

Teacher Training                             

Graduates of the 2nd stage level of the teacher training (Mgr.) acquire pedagogical, psychological and vocational competencies to pursue the profession of a teacher at the lower and higher secondary education levels. They are also qualified to work as educators in school and out-of-school educational establishments (e.g. school clubs, leisure time centres) as well as officers working for the state administration and self-administration in the area of education.

DOCTORAL DEGREE (PhD.)

Anthropology

Graduates are competent to do independent research, participate in research teamwork, to be engaged in domestic and international research projects, carry out university teaching activities, and to apply the scientific knowledge they have obtained to scientific, educational, and social practice.

Environmental Ecology

Graduates are competent to carry out independent scientific and creative activities in the research area of ecological and environmental sciences as well as to present their results at conferences and in their publishing activities. They master scientific methods of research by making use of modern methods of computer technology, modelling of ecological relations, designing and formulation of scientific projects. Graduates can make use of their potential at universities in research and the teaching of biological, ecological and environmental subjects. Their broad scope enables them to be engaged as top specialists for planning and use of landscape, the state conservation of nature they can work in specialized government self-government administration.

Regional Geography and Regional Development

Graduates are competent to deal with the problems of the relations between the natural environment and human community in a particular region to solve the problems of the spatial organization of society at a regional level leading to the application within a specific regional development. Graduates are able to use, improve and develop a theoretical-methodological base of regional geography, the methodology of regional analysis in particular, the theory of regions as a constitutional element of the society, the theory and methodology of regional development, the modeling of regional systems, theory of globalization and its regional consequences.

Theory of Physics Education

Graduate of the study programme Theory of Physics Education (3rd level) provides scientific research and comes with his/her own solutions to problems related to teaching physics as well as evaluating and analyzing the knowledge of pupils and students. Learns the principles of scientific work, methods of pedagogical research focused on teaching physics, methods of creating pedagogical documents, and the process of preparing study materials. Knows ethical and social aspects of scientific work and masters the techniques of presenting the research results. He/she is able to work and communicate in a scientific team.
