The Institute of Psychology offers also possibilities to accomplish Erasmus+ staff mobility for incoming teachers and other staff.

Study program description:

Bachelor´s Study Program:

Main themes of the study program consists of the following courses: Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, Cognitive psychology, Psychology of emotions and motivations, Elementary statistical methods in psychology, Systems of psychology, Fundamentals of Psychological Methodology I, Social Psychology, Essentials of developmental psychology, Essentials of psychodiagnostics, Personality psychology, Counselling psychology, Career counselling, Essentials of counselling and school psychology, Essentials of clinical psychology, Essentials of work psychology and management psychology, Educational psychology, Family psychology, Moral psychology, Psychological counselling in crisis and violence prevention.

Alternative units of the core curriculum consist of subjects: Theory and practice of social-psychological training, Substitute family care, Personality psychology, Relaxation and Imagination techniques, Fundamentals of Sociology, History of Philosophy and Human Ethology.

Bachelor´s degree graduate profile:

After completion of Bachelor's degree, Psychologist Bachelor (Bc.) acquires:

- The autonomous capacity to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Psychology and use them independently

- The ability to understand the results of basic and applied research, and to use them

- Capacity to administer, evaluate and interpret psychological tools (questionnaires, tests) independently for the purposes of group comparison; led by graduate with a Master's degree for the purposes of individual diagnosis

- A qualification entitles him to work in the following areas: clinical psychology, educational psychology, counselling and school psychology and work psychology;

- Graduate is capable of using the basic psychological knowledge and approaches also in other areas, especially in the field of social work, human resources, management or marketing, in business, in culture and the like.

Master´s Study Program:

Main themes of the study program consists of the following subjects: Counselling Psychology, School psychology, Partner and Family Counselling, Clinical Psychology of Adults, Clinical Psychology of Children, Psychology of work, Management Psychology, Psychology of performance, Psychodiagnostics of Adults, Psychological of children and youth, Psychiatry and Psychopathology, Psychological methodology II , Psychological theories of personality, special issues of developmental psychology, Advanced statistical procedures using SPSS, Contemporary trends in psychology, Practice.

Alternative units of the core curriculum creative subjects: Psychophysiology, Adult Psychology and Gerontopsychology, Prevention of Addictions, Forensic psychology, Group Psychotherapy, Family Psychotherapy, Virginia Satir Family Psychotherapy, Psychotherapy of emotionally disturbed children, Geštalt psychotherapy, Cognitive-behavioural therapy, Psychology in human resource management, and Marketing Psychology .

Master´s degree graduate profile:

After competition of Master´s degree, Psychologist Master (Mgr.) acquires:

- Knowledge and professional skills, which entitles him to create and verify new psychological processes (e.g. Diagnostic and therapeutic)

- graduate is capable of handling the complex methodological and statistical methods of psychological research; on the basis of theoretical knowledge, and to design and carry out basic and applied psychological research

- Graduate is eligible to confronts his/her own knowledge and findings through scientific presentations

- Graduate is eligible to carry out individual diagnosis and psychotherapy

- Graduate has specific knowledge and professional skills for the implementation and exercise of the profession of psychologist in the following specialties: clinical psychologist, counselling and school psychologists, Occupational psychologist

Ph.D. Study Program:

The study program offers doctoral students the opportunity to acquire the latest information and research skills in general psychology with interoperable and interdisciplinary perspectives, and in a holistic socio-historical context. PhD student acquires orientation in history and also in contemporary trends in psychology as bio-social science. Furthermore, PhD student masters the methodological approaches to psychological research, including advanced statistical methods of discipline. PhD student is eligible to develop psychological research in Slovakia and to maintain the continuity of the research by training of new students.

Graduate profile of doctorate study program:

Graduates are able to deliver scientific research results, which benefit the general psychological theory and methodology and they are able to develop it.

Graduates are prepared for pedagogical activity at university. Graduates adopt the principles and methods of comprehensive scientific work in psychological research so as to be able to present their results at the international publication criteria. Thanks to the acquired knowledge in a given field, graduates can competently comment on the fundamental issues and express their opinion and to representatives also from other disciplines. In the current period of development of society, their application is in academia, i.e. in higher education and research institutions. Prospectively, it will extend the possibilities of graduates’ application in all socio-economic areas.
