Dr. Yevheniia Butsykina

Dr. Yevheniia Butsykina is an associate professor at the Department of ethics, aesthetics and cultural studies, Philosophy faculty, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine); as well as an art critic and cultural manager. She did her PhD in philosophy (“Transgressive Experience Concept by Georges Bataille: Aesthetical Analysis”), and has since published and taught, with a particular interest in design and cultural studies, environmental and everyday aesthetics, philosophy of laughter, G. Bataille’s aesthetic ideas. Member of the Society for Aesthetics in Slovakia (SPES). 

Yevheniia’s publications include: “Being-in-the-city experience as a subject of aesthetics of the everyday” (in Doksa, 2019), “The Aesthetic Value of Vernacular Gardens in Ukrainian Cities” (in “Everydayness. Contemporary aesthetic approaches”, University of Prešov, Roma Tre-Press, 2021), “Vernacular culture, city, architecture: analysis and correlation of concepts” (in Ukrainian Cultural Studies, 2021), “Private and public spaces collision in the post-soviet cities (a case of Kyiv city)” (in Proceedings of the International Scientific Conference Coordinates of Aesthetics, Art and Culture 7. Prešovská univerzita v Prešove, Prešov 2022).

Her art critic texts have been published in Art Ukraine, Korydor, VONO, Artslooker journals (Ukraine), SONIAKH digest (Poland). Contributor and co-editor of the book “MUHI 2009-2021” (Osnovy Publishing, 2022).

During Summer semester 2023, Yevheniia realises a research stay at the Institute of Aesthetics, Arts, and Culture at the University of Presov, enabled by the National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic.

  • Workshop “City strolling as an experience. Possibility of "field study" in urban aesthetics” (26/04)
  • Moderating of the Section of Aesthetics within the Days of Science Conference, Faculty of Philosophy, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (with the participation of students, PhD students and teachers from the Institute of Aesthetics and Art Culture in Prešov).
  • Lecture within the Aesthetic Forum 2023 in Prešov
