Course Description

The Faculty of Management and Business at the University of Prešov is pleased to offer an academically rigorous and forward-looking Master’s degree programme: Economy and Management in Sustainable Innovative Industry. Delivered entirely in English, the programme is designed to equip students with the comprehensive knowledge and practical competences required to navigate and lead the transition toward sustainability and innovation in modern industrial and business environments.

This interdisciplinary study programme responds to the growing global demand for professionals capable of integrating economic, environmental, and technological aspects into strategic decision-making. Graduates will be prepared to address complex sustainability challenges—such as climate change, decarbonisation, and circular transformation—through applied economic analysis, innovative business models, and strategic project planning.

Curriculum

The curriculum is structured across four semesters and includes both theoretical foundations and applied learning experiences. Students are required to obtain 120 ECTS credits, of which the majority are derived from core (compulsory) courses, supplemented by elective modules and professional practice.

In addition to coursework, students will complete a professional internship with one of our institutional or industry partners, and a Master’s thesis, focused on applied research or project-based analysis within the programme’s thematic scope.

Program Outcome

Degree: Engineer

The second-level programme in Economy and Management in Sustainable Innovative Industry prepares students to become leaders in the circular economy and sustainable business. Upon graduation, graduates will hold a degree of Engineer (Ing.)

 

Knowledge

Graduates will demonstrate in-depth understanding of:

  • Circular economy principles and sustainable business strategies
  • Financial mechanisms and innovations supporting green transformation
  • ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) integration in corporate and financial planning
  • Legal, regulatory, and policy frameworks governing sustainability at national and EU levels
  • Strategic planning and quality, environmental, and energy management standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001)

 

Skills

Graduates will be proficient in:

  • Designing sustainable and circular business models
  • Applying ESG criteria in business practice, including investment decisions and risk management
  • Conducting strategic planning and evaluating sustainability strategies using key performance indicators
  • Using modern digital tools (AI, IoT, Big Data) to support sustainability analysis and decision-making
  • Managing processes of green energy transition in companies
  • Integrating and auditing integrated management systems within industrial or service organisations

Graduates will be able to:

  • Critically assess the economic and environmental implications of business activities
  • Develop long-term strategies promoting circularity, sustainability, and innovation

Admissions

Main requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Economics, Management, Business, or related)
  • Applicants with a degree from a different field must pass a differential test (could be an online test)
  • If obtained outside Slovakia or the Czech Republic, diploma recognition (nostrification) is required. Nostrification can be processed at the University of Prešov or another Slovak university offering a related study programme
  • English language proficiency → verified by certificate or online interview

Applicants can choose one of the following options:

  • Electronic application via MAIS: Fill in the electronic form through the Modular Academic Information System (MAIS), print, sign, and send that by mail to the Faculty address.

In both cases, the application must be delivered to the Faculty of Management and Business by the given deadline, along with all required documents.

  • Proof of English language competence or an Online interview (language assessment) conducted by the Faculty

  • Power of Attorney (if the applicant will not handle enrolment in person) – Must be notarized and signed

Scholarships

At the University of Prešov, outstanding academic performance is rewarded through a merit-based scholarship system. Up to 10% of full-time Bachelor's and Master's degree students may receive a motivational scholarship every semester, based on previous exceptional academic achievements.
