Important Information on Residence Permit Procedures for International Students

Academic Year 2026/2027

Please note that there is an important change regarding the residence permit application process for international students coming to the University of Prešov.

For the academic year 2026/2027, the procedure applied in the previous academic year, under which international students were processed outside the official reservation system, will no longer apply.

All international students are therefore required to book an appointment through the official reservation system before submitting their application for a temporary residence permit at the Foreign Police Department.

Who Does This Apply To?

These rules apply to all third-country nationals coming to the University of Prešov, including:

  • full-time students,

  • part-time students,

  • degree students,

  • exchange and mobility students.

First Application for a Temporary Residence Permit for Study Purposes

Students applying for a temporary residence permit for study purposes for the first time may submit their application at any Foreign Police Department in Slovakia.

To avoid overloading the Foreign Police Department in Prešov, particularly at the beginning of the academic year, students are encouraged to consider booking an appointment at another Foreign Police Department in eastern Slovakia if no appointments are available in Prešov.

Before Booking an Appointment

Before making a reservation, please ensure that you:

  • book your appointment well in advance,

  • choose an appointment date only after preparing all the required documents,

  • attend your appointment with the complete set of required documents.

Please note that applications cannot be accepted if any required documents are missing. In such cases, the appointment will be considered as unattended, and you may be prevented from creating a new reservation for up to 60 days.

Important Rules for Using the Reservation System

When creating a reservation, please do not use VPN services, proxy servers, or other tools that hide or change your IP address.

The reservation system of the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic may identify such connections as unsuccessful or suspicious attempts to create a reservation, which may prevent your reservation from being completed.

Cancelling an Appointment

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please cancel your reservation at least 12 hours before the appointment time.

Timely cancellation helps ensure that unused appointment slots become available to other applicants.

Please note that if you fail to attend your appointment without cancelling your reservation, the reservation system may restrict you from creating a new reservation for a certain period (currently up to 60 days).
