Course Description

This program provides in-depth knowledge of biological theory and applied research practices. Students learn to design and conduct laboratory and field experiments, analyze and synthesize data, and apply their findings to solve biological problems. Through internships and research placements in public administration, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations, students gain practical experience that prepares them for independent work and leadership roles in diverse biological research environments. The program allows students to specialize in one or more biological disciplines such as anthropology, genetics, ethology, molecular biology, or immunology, as well as interdisciplinary fields like cytogenetics, clinical anthropology, bio-pharmacology, ecophysiology, or ecological biophysics. Thanks to this specialization, graduates are well-prepared to contribute to improving the health and well-being of humans, animals, and plants. At our department, we explore biology across all scales of life, from microscopic structures to complex ecosystems. We believe that scientific knowledge is essential to solving today’s global biological and environmental challenges. Therefore, we emphasize evidence-based approaches, interdisciplinary thinking, and student involvement in cutting-edge research from the very beginning of their studies.

Program Outcome

Graduates possess comprehensive knowledge and skills in the investigation of living systems at various levels of biological organization, including modern molecular and genetic methods. They specialize in one or more areas within the biological sciences—such as anthropology, genetics, ethology, molecular biology, or immunology—or in interdisciplinary fields like cytogenetics, clinical anthropology, biopharmacology, ecophysiology, or ecological biophysics. Thanks to their expertise, graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to the improvement of human, animal, or plant life and health through scientific research and innovation. The graduate possesses extensive expert and methodological knowledge in various specialized areas of the field of biology, as well as a solid foundation in several branches of chemistry and related scientific disciplines. They are able to independently apply biological, chemical, mathematical, and computational methods to solve practical tasks and draw well-founded conclusions. The graduate is capable of creatively and independently addressing problems in biological research and practical challenges in applied biology. They have the knowledge and skills to carry out research on living systems at multiple levels of organization, including the molecular, cellular, individual, population, community, and ecosystem levels. They understand the essential relationships, principles, and theories relevant to the field

Scholarships

At the University of Prešov, outstanding academic performance is rewarded through a merit-based scholarship system. Up to 10% of full-time Bachelor's and Master's degree students may receive a motivational scholarship every semester, based on previous exceptional academic achievements.

Additionally, students may apply for motivational scholarships for extraordinary achievements in sports, arts, or research. These opportunities aim to support and recognize students who not only excel academically but also contribute to university life through talent and innovation.

National Scholarship Scheme

Slovakia invites talented students from around the world to pursue their academic goals through the National Scholarship Scheme – Studying in Slovakia Rewards Me. This program offers a scholarship of €5,000 per academic year for two years of full-time Master’s studies at selected public higher education institutions, including the University of Prešov. Master’s program in Management is eligible under this scheme, as it falls within the national Smart Specialisation Strategy (SK RIS3 2021+).

Every year, up to 45 scholarships are awarded at the Master’s level based solely on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. To be considered, applicants must achieve a minimum SAT score of 1100. No other test or substitution is accepted.
