Educational activities of the department
Department of Management of the Faculty of Management, University of Prešov in Prešov, provides academic subjects/courses: (1) the compulsory (mandatory) units of core knowledge, (2) other topics of the core knowledge, and (3) compulsory elective courses in all accredited study programs: 3.3.15 Management, 4.3.3 Environmental management and 8.1.1 Tourism as well as subjects/courses in the doctoral program Management at tertiary level. All subjects/courses under the auspices of the Department of Management provide students with solid grounding in management, its particular areas and organizational aspects. Teaching portfolio of the department is extensive - covers a wide range of subjects/courses focusing on general management, human resources and their management, labour relations, international management and entrepreneurship, strategic management, planning, organizing, decision making, risk and crisis management, operational management and logistics, ethical aspects of business, culture and intercultural differences, managerial creativity. The courses are designed to encourage the development of analytical thinking, critical thinking and creativity of students. Part of the department is the Division of Law, which aims to provide students with a theoretical background and to make students acquainted with basic knowledge and information in selected areas of law that are necessary for their future profession.
Research activities of the department
Being established on 15th April 1996 the Department of Management is the oldest department of the Faculty of Management. It focuses on the following dominant areas of research:
- Theory and practice of management, issues of regulatory mechanisms, forms and methods of effective management, practical applications of management.
- Performance Management and Knowledge Management.
- Risk management and crisis management, particularly at regional and municipal level.
- Strategic management, particularly the management of regional and local development.
- Total Quality Management (quality, environment, OHS - occupational health and safety) and Process Management.
- Human Resource Management including the narrower fields of Human Resource Management (practices, procedures, processes, quality of working life, international HRM etc.).
- International Management, Intercultural Management, Business Ethics and Corporate Culture
- Research in the field of quality evaluation in the tertiary sector and the implementation of evaluation and self-assessment of the quality in the system CAF and other systems, in guarantee for the entire University of Prešov.
Profile and career prospects of the graduates of the study programme
Graduates can expect to develop skills enabling them to pursue their careers in the following areas of managerial and specialised occupations:
- in specialised personnel departments – human resources departments, predominantly in small and medium-sized enterprises,
- at a position of general business managers,
- in public sector - civil service and self-governing authorities at personnel departments
- in offices dealing with human resources and personal databases,
- as human resources management and personnel marketing experts in professional firms active in labour market,
- as an expert in consulting and advisory companies focused on social and personnel development providing analytical and expertise activities,
- as an expert for public relations and communication with the public.
