How to do research in tourism or ... how to get rid of a bogeyman

On 1 December 2022, a professional lecture on how to successfully enter the world of research was held in Hall M120 of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Business, PU. The lecture was led by Dr. Maria Hadjielia Drotárová, PhD. from the Cypriot university CTL Euro College Limassol, which has been working as a university teacher for many years and also in the field of research. At her home institution in Cyprus, she is the head of research and focuses her attention dominantly on the tourism industry. In her scientific and pedagogical activities, she inspires many students and colleagues to carry out interesting research tasks and contributes to the knowledge of the tourism market in its more detailed forms.

The lecture was held as part of a series of professional lectures that are regularly organized at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Business and its Department of Tourism and Hotel Management. This time as one of the activities of the project 005PU-4/2022 - KEGA "Innovation of the study program Tourism, hotel and spa industry in the first degree of study in the field of study Economics and management."

As lecturers, experts from the academic or scientific community are most often invited, and especially experts from practice, who bring a new point of view to the theoretical starting points of individual topics and problems. Through interactive communication, the mentioned issue was addressed to all students of the faculty, but dominantly to students of tourism, hotel and spa industry. The bachelor's study program of THK has enjoyed interest from students for many years. Its relevance and quality is regularly proven by the success of its graduates, who are employed in a wide range of positions in the services of tourism companies.

The tourism market is undergoing a constant transformation due to the significant impact of the pandemic situation and thus also on the provision of services in it. The pandemic has significantly affected it and brought new trends to the global conditions that characterize the current market. For the needs of its more thorough and deeper knowledge, it is therefore necessary to carry out high-quality and continuous research. Due to the positive impetus to the implementation of new high-quality studies, bachelor's or diploma theses, Dr. Hadjielia Drotárová, PhD. in the form of a lecture filled with examples, instructions on how to get started. Due to the date of the organized lecture, it was especially suitable for students who are currently in their final years and working on their bachelor's and diploma theses. For the students of the lower grades, it was an ideal stimulus for how to approach the research itself and especially how to do it with pleasure.
