University of Prešov Establishes Strategic Partnership with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń

The University of Prešov (PU) continues to expand its international academic partnerships. From April 28 to 30, 2026, representatives of the University of Prešov paid a working visit to Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (UMK), one of Poland’s most prominent and respected universities, known for its strong scientific, educational, and international profile. UMK is among the leading academic institutions in Poland, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines and playing a significant role in the development of high-quality university education, research, and international academic cooperation.

PU was represented by Rector Dr. h. c. prof. PhDr. Peter Kónya, PhD, and prof. Kamil Kardis, PhD. The main objective of the visit was the ceremonial signing of a cooperation agreement between the University of Prešov and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The agreement establishes a solid framework for the development of joint scientific projects, academic mobility, publication activities, education, professional events, and other forms of inter-university cooperation.

The programme also included a meeting with the leadership of Nicolaus Copernicus University. On behalf of the host institution, participants included Rector prof. dr hab. Andrzej Tretyn, dr hab. Adam Kola, prof. UMK, Vice-Rector for Science, and dr hab. Magdalena Barwiołek, prof. UMK, Vice-Rector for International Relations. The discussions were held in the spirit of open dialogue focused on opportunities for systematic cooperation.

The working visit continued at the faculty level. At the Faculty of History of UMK, the PU delegation met with Dean prof. dr hab. Waldemar Rozynkowski. Another meeting took place at the Faculty of Law and Administration, where discussions were held with Dean prof. dr hab. Maciej Serowaniec and Vice-Rector for International Relations dr hab. Magdalena Barwiołek, prof. UMK. The talks focused on opportunities for collaboration in education, joint research activities, professional events, international projects, as well as the exchange of students and academic staff.

The signing of the strategic partnership agreement represents an important step in strengthening relations between the University of Prešov and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. This new partnership creates space for more intensive cooperation both at the university and faculty levels and brings new opportunities for students, teachers, and researchers at both institutions.
