Basic Information

The University of Presov was established by Act No. 361/1996 Coll. on the division of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. It is a university high education institution and carries out creative scientific, educational, artistic and cultural activities. Pedagogical activity at the university is based on the latest knowledge of science, including the results of its own scientific research.

The University of Presov has eight faculties. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Educationy, Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Orthodox Theology, Greek-Catholic Theological Faculty, Faculty of Health Care, Faculty of Sports and Faculty of Management and Business.

In addition to the main mission of the University of Presov, which is provision of higher education and creative scientific research, students have the opportunity to participate in artistic activity and develop their artistic creativity.

The existence of art ensembles is proof of highly cultivated and artistically valuable expressions of artistic creativity on the university grounds.

At the University of Presov, the Board for Artistic Activity has been established. The Board for Artistic Activity of the University of Presov is a permanent professional body of the university, established with a focus on the development of artistic and cultural activities of university students. Part of the Board for Artistic Activity are the art ensembles of the UP.

Faculty of Arts - Department of Music in the field of research and pedagogy ensures the training of teachers of music education for elementary schools - practical training (practice in ensembles). In addition to scientific research, the Institute of Aesthetics and Art Culture of the Faculty of Arts of UP also focuses on the practical artistic activities of university youth in Slovakia within the framework of alternative theater culture, as well as poetic and prose literary work, translations and criticism. Artistic ensembles present their activities at various events, such as: Academic university competitions, parades, festivals, public performances, television and radio recordings, etc. They significantly influence the cultural and social life at the university and are worthy representatives at non-university events within the city of Prešov, the district, the Prešov region, nationally and internationally at home and abroad.
