Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Care University of Prešov in Prešov participates in the organization, coordination and implementation of the study programme Nursing, No. 7.4.1 in accordance with the Law of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic No. 131/2002 Coll. about universities.

Nursing is a study field from the system of study fields classified as a separate study field under No. 25 in accordance with the Decree of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic on the System of Study Fields of the Slovak Republic No. 244/2019 Coll.

The Department of Nursing in the nursing field of study provides education in the following accredited study programmes:

• Nursing – 1st degree - code 655

• Nursing - 2nd degree - code 767

The department provides the teaching of theoretical subjects and practical exercises in simulation laboratories, which form the necessary knowledge base before students enter selected clinical workplaces.

The educational programme of the department is aimed at preparing nurses for the performance of their future profession so that they are able to help patients, clients, families and communities at a high professional and human level in identifying, restoring and consolidating health within the scope of their competences defined by the Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic dated 01. of April 2018 No. 95/2018 Coll., which determines the scope of nursing practice provided by a nurse independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor, and the scope of midwifery practice provided by a midwife independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor.

Teaching is carried out in the form of lectures, seminar exercises and exercises in accordance with the study plan. Practical training of clinical exercises in healthcare facilities is an essential part of nurses' training. We cooperate with Ján Adam Reiman's Faculty Hospital in Prešov, with all hospitals in the region of Eastern Slovakia, with the hospitals of the World Health Network and the company Agel. The course is aimed at applying theoretical knowledge into practice with a focus on nursing activities within outpatient and institutional care.

The department is profiled in the category of professional and scientific activities in the field of nursing research. It participates in the implementation of projects within the framework of international academic cooperation.
