Profile of Master's Degree Graduate
Graduates of the 2nd degree of higher education in the nursing study programme are able to fulfill the requirements of the discipline, which integrates nursing theories with scientific knowledge from other fields, which are necessary for the provision of health services to the public in the framework of prevention, as well as care in illness and remedial treatment. Graduates are able to provide nursing care to an individual, family, group or community in health or illness and contribute to health, recovery or peaceful and dignified dying and death. Professional training is based on the results of science and research. The nurse independently conducts research and applies the research results in practice. The profile of the graduate corresponds to the Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic dated 01. of April 2018, No. 95/2018 Coll., which determines the scope of nursing practice provided by a nurse independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor, and the scope of midwifery practice provided by a midwife independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor.
Delineation of the graduate's areas of application
The Nursing master's degree programme prepares students for a professional career in the field of health care, health services and social services.
Completion of the study programme will enable graduates within the corresponding level of the Slovak Qualifications Framework (level 6) to perform the following profession specified in the National Qualifications System: nurse.
The graduate of the Nursing master's study programme acquires a professional qualification for the performance of the profession in accordance with Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on the amendment of certain laws, in accordance with Act No. 578/2004 Coll. on health care providers, health workers, professional organizations in the health sector and as amended. The description of work activities is defined by Decree of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic No. 95/2018 Coll., which determines the scope of nursing practice provided by a nurse independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor, and the scope of midwifery practice provided by a midwife independently, independently based on a doctor's indication and in cooperation with a doctor.
The graduate is able to think critically and work with the results of credible research, participates in scientific research activities and uses scientifically justified working methods, procedures and techniques.
The graduate of the study programme in the field of nursing will apply as a master's nurse in the field of health care management, research, education and practical training of nurses. He can work privately and independently within the framework of applicable regulations. Nurses can continue their education in specialized training and in continuous education.
He will receive a complete second-level university education in the field of nursing with a focus on managing nursing practice and leading a nursing team. Graduates of 2nd degree of higher education in the nursing field of study and the nursing study programme are a prerequisite for a functioning health care provision system in various health facilities, but also in facilities providing social and health care. The academically oriented study programme prepares graduates who are able to meet the demands of science in the field and provide evidence-based health care. This approach enables nurses to manage a wealth of information, think critically and make decisions based on scientific evidence. It is essential to use such a communication platform in view of the layman's misuse of non-scientific information in patient care.
