Types of Support
The Student Support Centre is a university-wide facility that provides resources, counselling, technical equipment rental and consultations for students with specific needs.
Support for students with visual impairments
- training in orientation in a university environment,
- rental of reading aids (magnifying glasses),
- acceptance of the specifics of visual impairment (early fatigue, inadequate facial expressions, gestures, excessive emotional reactions),
- preparation of texts into an acceptable form,
- rental of technical aids for auditory listening to lectures.
Support for students with hearing impairments
- assistance with learning from text,
- rental and training in the use of assistive technologies,
- copying notes,
- modification of oral exams.
Support for students with limited mobility
- introduction to the academic premises of the university, student residence halls,
- training in spatial orientation,
- arrangement of a classmate assistant to accompany the student to classes and extracurricular activities,
- technical devices (voice recorder, laptop) are available for use when transcribing text.
Support for students with developmental learning disabilities or acquired learning disabilities
- preparation for exams,
- assistance service,
- rental of digital aids for note-taking and proofreading of written text,
- time compensation,
- rental of reference literature for extended periods,
- professional assistance with using library catalogues.
Support for students with autism spectrum disorder
- guidance in organizing studies,
- organizing individual teaching,
- rental of technical aids,
- long-term rental of reference literature.
Support for students with mental disorders
- drafting of a document – status of a student with specific needs and individual recommendations for study,
- rental of technical support for lectures and seminars,
- counselling during studies,
- tolerance of more frequent absences,
- longer than standard rental periods for literature,
- time management.
Advisory services are provided during the admission process and in resolving study-related matters.
Counselling is provided to applicants and students with specific needs when choosing or changing their field of study.
- The individual needs of students with specific needs are based on the results of an analysis of submitted medical documents and a personal interview focused on specifying individual study requirements. The staff of the Support Centre will work with students to create equal opportunities for study without lowering the standards.
