Changes to Residence Procedures for International Students - AY 2026/2027

We would like to inform you of a change concerning residence permit procedures for international students. In the 2026/2027 academic year, the system from the last year, under which international students were processed outside the appointment booking system, will no longer apply.

All international students will therefore be required to book an appointment with the relevant Foreign Police Department exclusively via the appointment booking system. We would also like to point out that students submitting their first application for temporary residence permit for the purpose of study may submit their application to any Foreign Police Department in the Slovak Republic.

To prevent the Foreign Police Department in Prešov from becoming overburdened, particularly at the beginning of the academic year, we recommend that students also use other Foreign Police Departments in eastern Slovakia when submitting their first application for temporary residence.

We therefore kindly ask you to inform international students in good time that they should:

• book an appointment sufficiently far in advance;
• schedule their appointment for a time when they will have all the legally required documents needed to submit their application ready;
• attend their scheduled appointment with all the required documents. If a student arrives without the complete set of documents required to submit the application, the application cannot be accepted. The booking system will record this as a failure to attend the scheduled appointment, resulting in the automatic suspension of the ability to make a new appointment for 60 calendar days;
• in the case of a first application, consider using another office of Foreign Police Department if appointments at the Foreign Police Department in Prešov remain unavailable for an extended period.

We would also like to emphasise the importance of cancelling an appointment in good time if a student is unable to attend at the agreed time - no later than 12 hours before the scheduled appointment. This will prevent unused appointments from being blocked and make them available to other applicants. If an applicant fails to attend a scheduled appointment without cancelling it, the appointment booking system will restrict their ability to make a new appointment for a certain period - currently 60 days.

We also ask students not to use VPN services, proxy servers or other tools that block or mask their IP address when making an appointment. The appointment booking system of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic may assess such connections as unsuccessful or suspicious attempts to make an appointment, which may prevent the appointment from being completed successfully.

This procedure applies to all students from third countries coming to University of Prešov, whether enrolled in a full-time or a part-time study or are on a mobility programme.
