8th International Conference EMB 2023 organized by the FMB
The Faculty of Management and Business of the University of Prešov, which has the status of "Excellent Research Workplace", organized a successful 8th international scientific conference.
More than 150 scientists from 23 countries from 5 continents took part in the above-mentioned international scientific conference of the Faculty of Management and Business from 28 September to 29 September 2023 in the congress centre in Nový Smokovec. The title of the conference was "Economics, Management & Business 2023: Contemporary Issues, Insights and New Challenges".
The level of scientific activity of the faculty has a great influence not only on the quality of university studies and accreditation, but also on the level of scientific conferences and other scientific events.
On the basis of the evaluation of the high level of scientific activity, the Faculty of Management and Business of the University of Prešov has repeatedly been awarded the status of "Excellent Research Workplace" (ERW). Also for the year 2023, the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic has again awarded this status of EVP to the faculty on the basis of an exact assessment (namely on the basis of a regression model) of its results in scientific research activities. Out of a total of 76 social science faculties or units of public universities from all over the Slovak Republic (all faculties of economics, law, philosophy, education, sports, etc.), the Faculty of Management and Business was ranked among the top three in the Slovak Republic.
On the basis of this excellent evaluation of the high level of its scientific activity, in 2023 the faculty received a part of the subsidy of about 1/3 million EUR to the budget of the University of Presov. In the last 2 years in total, the Faculty of Management and Business has thus secured an additional part of the subsidy to the PU budget of almost 3/4 million Euros on the basis of being an Excellent Research Centre.
One of the results of this scientific activity of the faculty is the organization of international scientific conferences of this type regularly every other year in cooperation with several mainly foreign universities, with a break during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to these, other scientific conferences, seminars and other events, often associated with research grants from external grant agencies, which do not have a regular character, are naturally also carried out at the faculty.
Like all conferences of this type held so far in the last 17 years, the conference was held in English. This 8th edition of the conference also met with a very favourable response in the international scientific community, especially from foreign universities, but also from domestic universities and Slovak representatives from practice, many of whom are real and potential employers of graduates of the Faculty of Management and Business.
The aim of the conference was to present the latest research results in the field of economics, management, business, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing and other related areas, not least tourism, hotel and spa industry, in the context of challenges, opportunities and threats related to the current dynamic global changes. The papers were dominated by the theme of coping with current global and local challenges and crises, the use of innovative scientific methods and intellectual capital in a dynamic market environment. At the same time, the active participation of scientists from different countries and continents allowed to discuss the role of cultural context and cross-cultural and international comparison of research results.
Professors from the United States, South Africa, Italy, Israel and Slovakia started the conference as keynote speakers. Subsequently, in the technical sessions, the conference continued with a number of additional presenting academics from 23 countries from the 5 continents mentioned above. The multicultural and international representation of the conference participants as well as the interdisciplinary perspective on the issues raised interesting discussions. In particular, professors from China, Germany, Greece, the United States of America, India, Australia, Israel, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Italy, Austria, Ukraine, and Slovenia elicited the most intense responses in the discussions. In particular, representatives of universities from the V4 countries contributed to the analysis of the problems of Central Europe.
Many of the participating professors are already our "regulars" and participate in each of these conferences realized by our faculty regularly every 2 years.
The conference proceedings will be indexed in the most prestigious worldwide scientific database Web of Science, some selected papers will be published in scientific journals registered in WoS. This year's conference offered 10 thematic areas in which the conference participants had the opportunity to focus their contributions, namely in the areas of Economics and Economics, Financial Management, Business and Marketing, Regional Development, Tourism, Hotel and Spa Industry, Environmental Management, Applied Informatics in Management and Business, Econometrics and Quantitative Methods, Legal, Ethical, Cultural, Psychological and Other Aspects in Economics and Management.
During and at the end of the conference, several participants from foreign universities expressed positive evaluation of the event and sent their thanks and commendations.
After this most recent conference was over, there were frequent questions from many participants as to when the faculty would hold another conference of this type so that they could register for it.
