Rigorous proceedings 2023 - 1st round

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS FOR RIGOROSIS PROCEDURE

 

prepared in accordance with Act no. 131/2002 Coll. about universities and amending certain laws, as amended

and of the

Study Rules of the University of Prešov in Prešov, Art. 25

 

1. Graduates of study programs who have obtained the degree of "master's degree" may take a rigorous examination, which also includes the vindication of rigorous work in the specialization of study in which they obtained a university degree or in a related specialization of study. After its completion, the university grants them an academic degree:

a) in the theological study programs "Doctor of Theology" (abbreviated to "ThDr.") - the study program Orthodox Theology,
b) in the social sciences and arts study programs "Doctor of Philosophy" (abbreviated to "PhDr.") - the study program Social Work.

The applicant submits the application for the rigorous examination to the Dean of PBF PU on the prescribed form no later than by April 30, 2023.

2. The applicant shall state in the application:

  • surname (also family name), name, titles, date and place of birth, residence (exact address, postal code), e-mail,
  • university degree obtained (university, specialization of study, date of graduation),
  • elected specialization of study to take a rigorous examination (Theology, Social Work),
  • the chosen topic according to the current offer (2nd page of the application),

and encloses the following documents:

  • certified copies of university diplomas (diploma and certificate),
  • professional Curriculum Vitae,
  • a copy of the diploma theses,
  •  the graduate of a foreign University also attaches a certified copy of the document acknowledging his or her equality.

3. Upon submission of the application, the Applicant shall submit proof of payment of the application fee for a rigorous procedure in the amount of EUR 30 and at the same time for acts connected with the provision of a rigorous examination and vindication of a rigorous theses in the amount of EUR 434 (copies of postal order vouchers, copies of transfer orders with handwritten signature). These fees are in accordance with the Price List of School Fees Associated with Studies for the Academic Year 2021/2022 at the PU in Prešov.

Fees must be paid by postal order or bank transfer to the above account and then send proof of payment (original postal order). In the case of a bank transfer, it is necessary to send the transfer order signed by the student (stating the name, surname), payment order or printed proof of payment via internet banking, stating the name, surname, and the student's signature. The deadline for sending is within 5 working days after payment, to the address: Faculty of Orthodox Theology PU in Prešov, Masarykova 15, 080 01 Prešov.

4. The Dean will confirm the application for the rigorous examination by June 15 of the relevant calendar year. The Dean of Faculty will return the application within the same period if the applicant has not submitted the required documents, or if it is a specialization of study in which the rigorous examination at the faculty does not take place, or if the applicant has applied for an unlisted topic.

5. By rigorous examination and vindication of rigorous work, the applicant must prove on the basis of independent study that he / she has deeper knowledge in the specialization of study and is able to independently acquire new knowledge of science and practice and apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

6. The Faculty does not provide a consultant to the applicant. The contact person will be the head of the relevant department, or a specialist of the department authorized by him.

7. The applicant submits a rigorous theses to the Department for Science and Doctoral Studies of the FOT. Before submitting the theses, the applicant registers it in the system MAIS - Evidence of final theses (MAIS-EZP PU; all necessary information is at https://www.unipo.sk/cvtpu/hlavne-sekcie/MAIS/ezp/. The applicant submits a printed rigorous work in the number of 2 pieces. At the same time, he/she brings an application for a rigorous examination, a license agreement and a protocol of originality (from MAIS-EZP PU).

8. The approximate scope of the rigorous work should be from 70 to 90 standard pages (126,000 to 162,000 characters). The nature of the specialization of study, the topic and other factors must be taken into account. For more information on the requirements for the formal arrangement of the work, the structure of the work, the requirements for the order of parts of the work, the standardized form of the list of used literature, the standard methods of citation: see Directive on final thesis requirements, Directive on final thesis requirements - template, Guidelines final theses (see all documents on the website in the final theses documents section) - if the applicant does not comply with the given standards, the theses will not be accepted!

9. The applicant must submit a rigorous theses within 12 months of registration of his application.

10. The candidate can not submit his / her diploma or other qualification thesis or a compilation theses as a rigorous theses.

11. If the Dean of Faculty or the commission for the performance of rigorous examinations does not return the rigorous work, he shall notify the applicant of its acceptance. The date of the exam will be determined by the Dean of Faculty within 12 months of receiving the thesis. The Dean's of Faculty office will deliver written reviews of the opponent to the candidate no later than 15 days before the rigorous examination. Rigorous theses can be accepted for vindication if it is recommended by at least one of the opponents. If none of the opponents recommended it, the Dean of Faculty will terminate the rigorous proceedings.

12. The rigorous examination shall take place on the same day (in front of the rigorous examination commission, which shall consist of a Chairman and at least three other members. The composition of the commissions for the performance of rigorous examinations is determined by the Dean of the FOT from among the persons authorized to examine. The rigorous exam is public. It begins with the vindication of rigorous theses. After the vindication of the theses, an oral exam is held in from two study subjects, which form a broader basis of the field of study, usually related to the area in which the applicant works or from which he has developed a rigorous theses.

13. The commission votes on the result of the rigorous examination in public at a closed session on the day of the rigorous examination. The Chairman of the commission will announce the result of the rigorous examination on the same day with the evaluation "passed" or "failed". If the result of the commission's vote is inconclusive, the vote of the Chairman is decisive.

14. Upon successful completion of the rigorous examination, the graduate will pay a fee to cover the costs associated with the issuance of a diploma for the award of an academic degree in the amount of 99 €, no later than 3 days after the rigorous examination.

15. If the applicant does not attend the rigorous examination within the specified deadline and his / her non-participation is not justified in writing within 3 days, he / she will be assessed as having "failed" the examination.

16. For the applicant who has not attended the rigorous examination and his / her absence has been justified, the dean will set an alternative date for the rigorous examination.

17. The applicant who has not vindicated a rigorous theses does not continue in the rigorous examination. The applicant will rework the theses on the basis of the opponent's opinions and may repeat the defense at the earliest one year after the date of the rigorous examination. An applicant who has not passed the rigorous examination in at least one subject may repeat the rigorous examination in this subject at the earliest three months after the date of the rigorous examination, usually in the following term of the rigorous examination.
