Scientific-educational profile of the centre

The Centre of Research into Children's Language and Culture is a scientific-research centre at the Faculty of Education. It is focused on:

• literature for children and youth – Slovak, foreign (theory, history, lexicography, criticism, children reception);
• integrative artistic pedagogy and the conception of poly-aesthetic education, psychology of perception and processes of imagination;
• development of child`s speech, development of narrative structures in the child`s speech;
• theory and history of the theatre, theory and history of radio drama, literary arts in mass media, drama for children and youth;
• aesthetics of fine art, picture theory, visual semiotics and semiotic relations of picture and word, illustration and book culture and its perception by children.

The Centre of Research into Children's Language and Culture, in its education activities, closely collaborates with the Department of Communication and Literary Education, the Department of Music and Art Education and with some departments from Faculty of Arts at the University of Prešov (focusing on music and drama art genres). In the study programs, the Department provides teaching of the courses in the areas of:

• theory and history of literature for children and youth;
• contemporary Slovak language and the development of a child's speech;
• theory and history of drama for children and youth, music pedagogy and art pedagogy.
