Department of Music, Art and Physical Education

Research activities of the Department of Music and Art Education include:

  • music pedagogy in the form of investigation and diagnosing the musicality in children of preschool and junior school age; aspects of designing music-educational activities and integrative aspects in music pedagogy,
  • folk-music communication and documentation of folklore music and children`s folk expression in the area of Šariš, Spiš and Zemplín counties,
  • music therapy in the educational context and its application in working with children with ADHD syndrome and children with special educational needs,
  • application of multimedia and digital technologies in artistic expression,
  • book illustration for children and youth in terms of theoretical and historical aspects; art education didactics for preschool and junior school age; analysis and interpretation of the elements of art-therapy in educational process,
  • issues of diagnostics and stimulation of motor abilities and skills of children of preschool and younger school age with emphasis on health aspects;
  • modeling of physical activities across all educational areas in the context of pre-primary and primary education.

Students, upon completion of the courses offered by of the Department of Music and Art Education, will:

  • obtain basic theoretical knowledge in the field of music theory, musical expression, history of the music, art theory, artistic expression and the history of the fine art;
  • improve their own musicality in the form of musical abilities, skills and habits (vocal, instrumental, receptive, musical-movement) and creative artistic abilities and skills;
  • gain educational skills necessary for the future teaching in the area of music and artistic activities in preschool and primary stages of education;
  • develop artistic competencies applicable not only in the educational sphere, but also in various areas of social and artistic life,
  • gain professional and pedagogical competencies in the field of management of physical and sports activities in pre-primary and primary education,
  • are able to design movement programs that in various educational contexts stimulate the movement assumptions of the individual as a key determinant in the mechanism of forming positive attitudes to lifelong physical activity.
