Department of Mathematic Education
Department of Mathematical Education scientific and research orientation include:
- implementation of innovative forms and methods in developing mathematical concepts in preschool children,
- development of mathematical concepts and cognitive skills in children of preschool and junior school age with special educational needs (identification and working with gifted children, working with children from socially disadvantaged background),
- possibilities of developing mathematical literacy in pupils at primary stage of education,
- philosophical and contextual transformation of mathematical training provided for the students of Preschool and Elementary Education programme; innovative methods in mathematical education and their integration into professional training of students, and developing supportive electronic (e-learning) courses in LMS Moodle,
- Comparative analysis of primary mathematical education in Slovakia and abroad.
Department of Mathematical Education participates in shaping the professional and subject-specific skills of the graduates – prospective teachers of preschool and junior school age pupils.
Graduates receive:
- theoretical knowledge necessary for developing mathematical concepts in preschool children and for successful implementation of teaching mathematics to younger school age children and those with special educational needs,
- skills and competences necessary to perform a teacher's duty creatively, to encourage children’s work, to organize it, to create an environment for positive reception of mathematics, to provide professional assistance to children of preschool and younger school age on their journey into the world of mathematics, to provide professional assistance to parents.
Students are provided the opportunity to develop their specific interests in a range of facultative and optional courses. The courses are delivered through e-learning supportive interface – LMS Moodle.
