Rector’s Visit to the University of Trento

The Rector of the University of Prešov paid an official visit to the University of Trento (Università di Trento) in Italy.

Trento (Latin: Tridentum) is a beautiful historic city located in the Italian Dolomites. It is best known for the Council of Trent (1545–1563), which addressed the Catholic Church’s response to the spread of the Reformation in Europe. Comparable in size to Prešov, Trento is also an important university center in the Trentino–Alto Adige region.

During his visit, Dr. h. c. Prof. Peter Kónya, PhD., Rector of the University of Prešov, met with Prof. Flavio Deflorian, Rector of the University of Trento, and Dr. Elisabetta Rossi, Head of the International Office. The discussions focused on introducing the two institutions and exploring common platforms for establishing active academic cooperation, student exchanges, and mobility opportunities.

With regard to both student numbers and academic profile, the University of Trento is similar to the University of Prešov. It offers study programmes in the humanities, law, economics, engineering, and natural sciences at all levels of higher education.

The meeting took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere and concluded with an agreement to identify specific areas of cooperation. The first step towards strengthening relations between the two universities is expected to be the signing of an Erasmus+ Interinstitutional Agreement.
