The Centre of Excellence of the Animal and Human Ecology

The research facility founded by FHPV PU (Faculty of Human and Natural Sciences of Presov University in Presov) aimed at enhancement of quality and synergy of potential at the Presov University in Presov within the framework of the animal and human ecological research of excellence.

The laboratories of sequential analyses are equipped with world’s state-of-the-art technology in DNA sequencing- aided with the next generation SOLID 5500 XL sequencer. The technology enables rapid sequencing of the whole genome of eukaryot cell. The laboratory is further equipped with:

The scope of the research in the environmental biotechnology laboratories is isolation and determination of the natural matters focused on the eco-physiological research of animals and plants.

The research in the biodiversity of animals laboratory deals with the identification of the inter-species diversity of animals and determination of animals on the plane of species.

IKT laboratory is connected with the research laboratories and serves the purposes of improving the effectivity of scientific work and communication among the expert workers of the respective component parts of the CE.

The Centre of Excellence of the Animal and Human ecology supports scientific research within the framework of animal and human ecology at the PU in Presov and concentrates experts in order to solidify science in Presov region as well as solutions of regional disparities.

To meet the current challenges in research, to strenghten the experimental infrastructure of the facility appeared to be most essential. In 2011, the newly founded laboratories of the centre were equipped with device technology as a result of the Operational Programme and Research and Development Programme projects. The key devices include two highly efficient genetic analysers for DNA sequential purposes, two real-time PCR devices, gas and liquid chromatograph and automatic micromanipulator for cell separation. Currently, the Centre of Excellence of the Animal and Human ecology belongs to the facilities with international-level of technological ecquipment. The devices allow carrying out of biochemical, molecular and genetic analyses.

The Lingvo-Culturological and Interpreting-Translatological Centre of Excellence (LITCE)

In the Centre projected, expert textual and audio-visual materials focusing predominantly on the Presov region are produced to promote and develop tourism as well as enhance overall contact with the abroad. Cooperation with the Presov autonomous region and the town of Presov are a part of the project.

Lingvo-Culturological methodology is applied in interpreting and translatology activities, to which texts are prepared in the mass-media laboratory, mostly with the aid of audio-visual networks in the respective language versions. An editing facility and a recording studio are componential parts of the laboratory.

The project foresees the completion of the phonological laboratory for the research of the audial plane of languages.

Research and development is enhanced in terms of five philological priorities (phonetics and phonology, lingvo-culturological studies, translatology and interpreting, massmedia communication and children’s speech). The level of special-purposes and literary translation as well as consecutive and simultaneous interpreting is being promoted.  The outcomes of the lingvo-culturological and translatological disciplines are guide texts in varied language versions, professional descriptions of selected landmarks (3D scans and commentary in more languages), production of lingvo- culturological didactical materials. Mass-media research is closely linked to the lingvo-culturological and translatological expert techniques. The scientific activities are also realised by the team specialising in the scrutiny of children’s speech (international projects cooperation). The above listed priorities are in the focal point of the philological doctoral programmes.

The Centre of Excellence of the Socio-Historical and Cultural-Historical Research

Within the framework of the Operational Programme of the Research and Development Project, the priority scope 2 of the Support of the Research and Development, the strategic aim is the modernisation and  effectivity enhancement of the system of research  support and quality improvement of the infrastructure of the Presov University of Presov (PU) by founding the Centre of Excellence of the Socio-Historical and Cultural-Historical Research. The Centre is to result in the enhancement of the quality of the research workplaces as well as the research of excellence support via securing optimal circumstances for the realisation of research activities and simultaneous concentration of higly qualified experts covering the framework of historical sciences as concerns the wider context of the scientific branch and branches related to it.

The major objectives of the project are the building-up of the premises of the Centre, equipping them with high-quality technologies, and defining the priorities of  research specialisation, research outcomes dissemination as well as the agency of the Centre. The professional activities of the Centre of Excellence include three major priorities assorted accordingly into the three divisions of the Centre- the Division of the Church history and Central-European religious research, the Division for the Migration Processes of Social History Studies and the Division of the Documentation and Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Slovakia.

Centre is a workplace equipped with technology on the international level of technological infrastructure. One of the priorities of the project is effective and long-term dissemination of research outcomes to be manifested in the enhancement of publishing with special focus on the two scientific periodicals of Historia Ecclesiastica and Annales Historici Presovienses.
