The project “Support for the European Universities Alliance ‘Q-Helix’ – an Inclusive European University based on the Quintuple Helix Model” is implemented under the programme Support for European Universities – Call 2025.

The Q-Helix European Alliance project represents a pioneering cooperation ecosystem rooted in the Quintuple Helix model, bringing together stakeholders around higher education institutions. Moving beyond traditional collaboration frameworks, it focuses on comprehensive security, environmental protection, smart city development and healthcare innovation.

The project’s main objective is to enhance and develop new skills and competencies among participants (students, doctoral candidates, and staff of WSB University and partner institutions of the Q-Helix Alliance) through innovative teaching approaches based on micro-credentials and the COIL method (Collaborative Online International Learning).

These activities will be supported through the establishment and development of an International Centre for the Quality of Education and Research within the Q-Helix Alliance, involving leading experts and experienced academic staff from partner universities.

The project contributes to the goals of the European Commission’s initiative “Union of Skills to equip people for a competitive Europe” (5 March 2025) by promoting personalised learning pathways. The Q-Helix Alliance will offer opportunities for European citizens to acquire new competencies and access interdisciplinary research outcomes through:

• participation in international conferences,
• summer and winter schools,
• access to open-access publications by Q-Helix researchers.

Through this project, the Q-Helix Alliance aims to create a sustainable ecosystem driving positive global change, by fostering a diverse academic environment, supporting digital and green transformation, and enhancing Europe’s resilience.

Key Areas of Cooperation

The project supports the development of strong collaborative ecosystems (international stakeholder networks across 10 countries involving agencies, businesses, civil society, government bodies, academia, and citizens of Europe) in the following areas:

• Security – Sustainable and multidimensional approaches to migration and security, with particular focus on political migrants and residents of ethnically divided cities.
• Healthcare – Creation of an interdisciplinary environment bringing together clinicians and researchers to develop holistic health solutions (covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, including both physical and mental health).
• Environment (Environmental Conservation & Restoration) – Linked to smart city concepts and promotion of STEM education, including broad environmental collaboration such as Ocean Literacy.
• Smart Cities – Optimisation of household systems based on usage time, real-time monitoring of consumption, IoT sensor integration, security alerts, smart access control, and smart housing solutions for seniors.

Planned Activities (2025–2027)

During the project implementation period:

• An International Centre for Quality in Education and Research will be established to develop shared quality frameworks and support the implementation of the Joint European Degree strategy.
• Five flexible learning pathways will be developed and piloted using the COIL method and certified micro-credentials:
  • four pathways in the priority areas (Security, Healthcare, Environment, Smart Cities),
  • one pathway focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence across these thematic areas and in education.
• Research collaboration will be strengthened through existing and newly established international research groups, supported by academic mobility and joint field research across partner countries.
• Four international conferences (one per priority area) will be organised.
• Four scientific publications (one per priority area) will be produced and published in open access by leading international publishers.
• Four international thematic schools for students and doctoral candidates will be organised in 2026–2027.
