Department of Intercultural Communication NEW
The Department of Intercultural Communication was established in the academic year 2012/13, making it the youngest department at the Faculty of Management and Business of the University of Prešov. The main goal of this department's work is to provide professional language training for future managers in various areas of the economy.
Three foreign languages are lectured at the Faculty: English, German and Russian.
We focus on professional foreign language teaching while developing general-language skills. We understand language as the bearer of culture, whose symbols and meanings can be distinguished and interpreted. In this context, we also see the necessity of acquiring intercultural competence in the current global world. We consider communicative knowledge to be closely related to culture and thus belonging to the necessary skills in the study of a foreign language. This means that being able to communicate in a professional foreign language involves not only knowledge of linguistic codes and non-verbal features but also acquiring intercultural competence, which develops along with language learning.
Emphasis on the development of language skills and abilities, intercultural communication and interdisciplinary approach to the study problems are the features of the educational process that will enable graduates of the Faculty of Management and Business to be competitive at the labor market. The acquisition of foreign languages and the acquisition of multicultural competence broadens the European dimension of education and corresponds to its current trend.
The Department of Intercultural Communication of the Faculty of Management and Business consists of a team of six full-time and three part-time teachers whose scientific and pedagogical focus is, in addition to foreign language teaching, on the linguistic, cultural and pragmatic aspects of the selected foreign language.
