Instruction for internet

Settings and rules for using the student Internet network in Student Hostels

1. Connecting a PC to the network can only be done using special UTP cables. These must be in good condition and include connectors. If you have problems, we advise you to check cables (or borrow  another from a fellow student).
2. Use only new active sockets to connect; in some rooms there are old non-functioning sockets which have been disconnected from the network. Information about the functionality of individual sockets can be obtained from the network operator.
3. Properties of the network adaptor in a PC must be DHCP configured. This means that there can be no fixed IP address in the settings.

Procedure for setting up network adaptor for notebook or PC:
a) First press “Start“ then click on “Control panel“
b) In the next menu, choose “View network status and tasks“:
c) Next choose item “Change adapter setting“:
d) In the next window confirm “Local connection“:
e) Next click on “Properties“ of local connection:
f) In the next window, mark Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP):
g) Clicking on the marked item will mean your computer is now properly DHCP configured.

This is the last stage in setting up your computer for connection to the student hostel Internet network.

4. If you wish to increase the number of connected users only switches can be used in rooms. Using routers (wi-fi equipment) for connecting to the network is strictly forbidden.
5. To prevent overloading or crashing of the network and blockage for other users, it is forbidden to download large files such as films and streams. Users who break this rule will be disconnected from the network.
We kindly request all users of the Internet in the student hostels to comply with these instructions and that way avoid problems with connection. Infringement of these rules will be punished in accordance with Student Hostel Rules and Regulations.
