Abstract

The leitmotif of the submitted contribution is the issue of the effects of Christianity on the culture of Islamic civilization in history and at present. The issue is examined based on the application of the ad fontesapproach. Both analytical and interpretative are mainly exposed to the sacred texts of Christianity and Islam (the Bible and the Qur'an). The historical and contemporary relations of cultures, based on the religious values of Christianity and Islam, are reflected in the positions of the reinterpreted concept of axiological pluralism. This concept is based on the assumption that the individual systems of religious values may have-in terms of mutual comparative- absolute or relative validity. The concept of axiological pluralism in the contribution is also methodically applied to the issue of dialogue between cultures and religions, emphasizing the relationship between Christianity and Islam. The background and limits of this dialogue are exemplified by the Christian or Muslim application of the principle of religious tolerance, which is presented in the contexts of internationally declared human rights and freedoms.

SUMMARY

Dialogue between Christianity and Islam (its content, flow, results etc.) dipends and will depend mainly on its persons involved, i. e. particular representatives or delegates of Christianity as well as Islam. In any case stands that future is always uncertain and opened. So the dialogue between Christianity and Islam is uncertain and open. There is no doubt that its overall direction will - inter alia – depend even from overall direction of Islam in Europe. ‘Possibilities are suprisingly miscellaneous. Some of the Islamites believe that religion should be purelu personal matter. Others are convinced that all aspects of the life, as in personal sphere so in public sphere, even at work should conform to Islam. That, if Islam will limit itself only to the system of personal religiousness and deprives of the political, social and juridical influence … or islamic masses unleash the conflict … or there will be succed to find some modern solution, which could adapt Islam, as social and political power, to the modern world … only time will tell’. [12] Despite to all, Europe can’t ‘last out’ this time with ‘hands off’. It has to express bravery and judgement. It has to justify its past and future. It has to be responsible for everything whot created and creates its spiritual identity and integrity. It has to be responsible for everything what gives it hope for further social and cultural development. At the moment, Europe has its own dastiny in its own hands.
