Abstract
When choosing a study focus, a broad set of motivational factors that take into account the personality assumptions and the impact of contemporary society play a role. For the social worker as an assisting professional, not only the professional knowledge and skills but also the prerequisites for prosocial behaviour are important. Knowing the motivation of students to choose a social work study can be helpful in understanding the basic intention and setting up of future social workers towards their profession. Motivation for the profession is a significant factor in the creation of any profession. The main objective of our research, which we are presenting in this study, was to identify the motivational structure that led the students of the Social Work study department to its choice.

SUMMARY
The choice of the study department is not a reflection of one theme but is the result of several motives of personality or social character. The profession of social worker is demanding work. It is characterized by immediate contact with people who have different social problems and are reliant on the help of a social worker. The aim of the paper was to bring closer the results of research aimed at finding the motivational structure of selection of the Social Work study department in terms of selected socio-demographic indicators, such as gender, age and employment of university students. The results of our research point to the fact that specific motivating factors are specific to specific groups of students.
