Course Description

This study programme is designed to reflect the requirements for a graduate of the second degree in the field of Economics and Management.

Our Master's (Mgr.) programme in Management prepares students to lead in the global economy. This two-year, internationally oriented programme equips students with advanced knowledge in economics and management, allowing them to analyse macroeconomic and microeconomic challenges, design and implement solutions, and evaluate the impact of economic and managerial decisions.

Students will develop strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, essential for senior managerial roles. The program fosters creative applications of theoretical knowledge, helping students stay ahead of emerging trends in business and management. Graduates will demonstrate a high degree of independence in addressing complex issues, making them valuable contributors to organisational leadership. Graduates will be able to understand new trends, identify their impacts, and, thanks to conceptual thinking, contribute to the transfer of applicable knowledge into economic and managerial practice. To apply for the Master's in Management (Mgr.) at the Faculty of Management and Business, University of Prešov, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree (first cycle of higher education) and have sufficient English language proficiency.

Curriculum

According to the Study Rules of the University of Prešov, the recommended study plan is defined by the list of compulsory and compulsory optional courses (subjects) and the recommended range of optional subjects, their credit and time allowance, and recommended semesters of their implementation so that the scope of direct teaching activities is 18 to 22 lessons per week.

The Master study programme is designed for a standard length of study, i.e., 2 years, and the standard workload is 60 credits per academic year. The total number of credits for the whole study is 120 credits.

The study plan includes:

  • compulsory subjects (13 weeks – one semester)
  • compulsory optional subjects (13 weeks – one semester)
  • optional subjects (13 weeks – one semester)

The total number of credits students can obtain for compulsory subjects is 96, representing 80% of the total number of credits required to complete their studies, while credits for compulsory subjects constitute 70-80% of the credits necessary for graduation.

The study program is composed of the combination of knowledge-based tasks, practical assignments and projects using a range of methods and teaching forms such as lectures, seminars, presentations, narrations, case studies, discussions, group work, project work, consultations, supervision, the Diploma Thesis Project, Diploma Thesis Defence and activating teaching methods (e.g. dialogical methods, situational methods, methods of group teaching and cooperative learning, project methods, simulation methods, staging methods, methods developing critical thinking, problem-solving methods, etc.).

The Master’s programme in Management prepares students to become leaders in business strategy, operations, and organizational development. Upon graduation, students will hold a degree of Master (Mgr.)

 

Upon graduation

Graduates will have the expertise to take on key roles such as strategy manager, financial analyst, HR manager, or operations leader. The programme equips them with strong analytical skills, decision-making abilities, and leadership competencies. The learning outcomes are achieved through measurable educational outcomes in individual subjects of the study programme and transformed into the abilities (knowledge, skills, and competencies) of the students.

Graduates can explain the principles of financial management; define theoretical knowledge of strategic and change management; specify the creation of strategic models and plans; define decision-making processes in management work; describe logistics in warehouse management and inventory management; define basic concepts in the field of financial controlling and other related fields.

Admissions

Main requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Economics, Management, Business, or related)
  • Applicants with a degree from a different field must pass a differential test (could be an online test)
  • If obtained outside Slovakia or the Czech Republic, diploma recognition (nostrification) is required. Nostrification can be processed at the University of Prešov or another Slovak university offering a related study programme
  • English language proficiency → verified by certificate or online interview

  • Electronic application via MAIS: Fill in the electronic form through the Modular Academic Information System (MAIS), print, sign, and send that by mail to the Faculty address.

In both cases, the application must be delivered to the Faculty of Management and Business by the given deadline, along with all required documents.

Scholarships

At the University of Prešov, outstanding academic performance is rewarded through a merit-based scholarship system. Up to 10% of full-time Bachelor's and Master's degree students may receive a motivational scholarship every semester, based on previous exceptional academic achievements.

Additionally, students may apply for motivational scholarships for extraordinary achievements in sports, arts, or research. These opportunities aim to support and recognize students who not only excel academically but also contribute to university life through talent and innovation.

 

National Scholarship Scheme

Slovakia invites talented students from around the world to pursue their academic goals through the National Scholarship Scheme – Studying in Slovakia Rewards Me. This program offers a scholarship of €5,000 per academic year for two years of full-time Master’s studies at selected public higher education institutions, including the University of Prešov. Master’s program in Management is eligible under this scheme, as it falls within the national Smart Specialisation Strategy (SK RIS3 2021+).

Every year, up to 45 scholarships are awarded at the Master’s level based solely on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. To be considered, applicants must achieve a minimum SAT score of 1100. No other test or substitution is accepted.
