In his academic research he focuses on the systematic analysis of the matter of genius loci of the cross-border regions, based on which cooperation can be developed even though territories are divided by state borders. He is the author and co-author of four textbooks about regional development for primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. In his research, he has been dealing as yet with cross-border territories on the border of the Slovak Republic with the Czech Republic. He co-founded a scientific research team which has managed to publish 5 monographs devoted to the study of the genius loci of border territories between the Czech and the Slovak Republics since 2004.
