E-learning module of the course History of ethical thinking in Slovakia II. (second half of the 18th century – until 1918)
Project number: 013PU-4/2019
Leading researcher of the project: prof. PhDr. Vasil Gluchman, CSc.
Duration: 2019 – 2021
Ethics in Slovakia (or in the territory of present-day Slovakia) was not one of the main areas of attention in our country for almost the entire period of development of philosophical thinking, even though teaching ethics has been part of teaching in secondary schools in our region since the beginning of modern times (e.g. in Prešov, Banská Bystrica, or Bratislava). In most cases, however, ethics did not exceed the level of school or religious framework. In the 18th and 19th centuries, ethical thinking was formed mostly as part of religious, theological, pedagogical, or political thinking. Exceptionally, independent works were created, which, however, primarily fulfilled the role of teaching texts, as was the case, for example, with Andrej Vandrák’s teaching career at the Evangelical College in Prešov. More significant development of ethical thinking occurs in our territory only later, especially after 1918. It is similar to the research of the history of ethical thinking in Slovakia. Until recently, there was a lack of systematic research comprehensively mapping the development of ethical thinking in our country, although certain preconditions for its implementation were created, as it was possible to follow the material research of S. Š. Osuský or T. Münz’s research concerning the history of Enlightenment philosophy in Slovakia, but also the research of Dalimír Hajko, Rudolf Dupkala, and especially Vasil Gluchman. Only recently has the research team of the Institute of Ethics and Bioethics FF PU in Prešov led by prof. Gluchman began to realize systematic research into the history of ethical thinking in Slovakia, since the time of Great Moravia.
This project aims to build on the previous project of the academic textbook History of Ethical Thinking in Slovakia I. and to write a university textbook History of ethical thinking in Slovakia II. and other teaching texts systematically presenting ethical thinking in Slovakia from the period of the second half of the 18th century until 1918. Part of the project is also the translation and publication of some of the most important works in the field of ethics that arose in our territory in that period.
All these outputs will then be transformed into an e-learning form based on the Moodle platform.
