Profile and application of graduates of the first degree (Bc.)

Graduates of the study programme Teaching of German Language and Literature (combined) 1st degree (in the field of study Teaching and Educational Sciences) acquire the following knowledge and acquire the following skills and competences:

Acquired knowledge: the graduate of the programme is familiar with the conceptual apparatus and basic knowledge of theoretical linguistic disciplines dealing with the individual levels of the linguistic system of the German language, as well as literary-theoretical and literary-historical disciplines.  

Acquired skills: the graduate of the programme is able to apply his/her knowledge when working with language material in oral and written form, to apply appropriate theory and method to the selected topic. The student will be able to communicate orally and in writing in the German language, as well as to analyse and interpret a literary text. Can apply the basic methodological procedures of various linguistic and literary schools and trends. Can apply the knowledge acquired in different areas of life in the German-speaking area and develop their own linguistic culture in both their mother tongue and in German. 

Acquired competences: can independently solve problem situations as well as professional tasks related to the creation of conditions for the foreign language learning process. The student is able to support his/her own decisions on an interdisciplinary basis in order to use them within the scope of his/her professional specialisation.

The graduate has a basic knowledge of the theories of the discipline of German Studies. He/she has mastered the most commonly used methods of text analysis in the field of both literary science and linguistics, is oriented in the basics of the individual subdisciplines and is able to further use this knowledge as needed. He has developed foreign language communication skills at the B2 - C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, elementary didactic skills, information literacy and the basic skills necessary for employment in the labour market.

Graduates of this study programme will be employed as: 

  • Teaching assistant for children's extracurricular activities (German language)
  • civil servant (foreign departments)
  • school administrative and methodological worker (running the language laboratory, managing the school library, preparing teaching materials, etc.)
  • editorial and intercultural worker
  • Teaching assistant for integrated pupils
  • Worker in manufacturing companies and trading companies in positions requiring knowledge of the German language

Graduates of this programme are sufficiently prepared to continue their studies at the second level of higher education.

Profile and employment of graduates of the II. degree (Mgr.)

bsolvent of the study programme Teaching German Language and Literature (combined) II. degree (in the field of study Teaching and Educational Sciences) will acquire the following knowledge and acquire the following skills and competences:

The graduate is qualified to be a teacher of German at lower and upper secondary level. He or she has a sound and extensive knowledge of German in terms of linguistic and communicative competence on the basis of mastery of the units of all levels of the language, their structure and functioning in speech, has a good command of the linguistic norms, communicates fluently and at an appropriate level orally and in writing, produces texts that are adequate in terms of content, theme and intent, and understands the information received in various stylistic forms and text types. Possesses a large vocabulary, word and sentence patterns that enable linguistic creativity in the production and reception of text. In communication, he/she is able to combine knowledge about his/her own country and German-speaking countries as well as knowledge about the world into meaningful and linguistically correct spoken and written texts and to understand such linguistic products. On this basis, he/she is appropriately creative, didactically and methodologically inventive and innovative with a view to achieving a high level of effect in his/her own pedagogical work or in work outside the sphere of teaching/education.

He/she knows the basic content of pedagogical and psychological disciplines, didactics and methodology of language teaching and is able to design and implement teaching, analyze the teaching process and innovate it. He/she is able to adapt educational programmes and their variants in the teaching components of the subject to the specific abilities and interests of the pupils, the conditions of the class and the type of school. Knows and uses modern didactic technology, information technology and can support and develop pupils' information literacy. Transforms and incorporates up-to-date information about the life and culture of the countries of the German-speaking area into the classroom. He or she is equipped with knowledge of the earlier developmental stages of the German language and is familiar with the history, culture, music and architectural works of the countries of the German-speaking area, which, together with the history of literature from the earliest written documents up to the present day, constitutes such a fund of knowledge and understanding that a graduate of German studies can successfully apply himself or herself in a wide range of intellectually demanding professions beyond the teaching profession. He or she uses the foreign and mother tongue to learn more deeply about other cultures, to acquaint foreigners with our cultural and other values, and to communicate our country with the world.

He/she is familiar with the trends, personalities and works of literature of German-speaking countries, knows the terminology of literary science (theory of literature) and the instrumentarium of stylistics and textual linguistics, which enables him/her to adequately analyse and interpret a literary work in terms of theme, motifs, style and aesthetic values, or to reflect on contemporary issues and write about them.

Graduates of this master's degree have sufficient knowledge of the theories of the discipline of German studies and have mastered the basics of the didactics of German language teaching. He or she has mastered the most commonly used methods of text analysis in both literary studies and linguistics, is familiar with the basics of the individual sub-disciplines and is able to use this knowledge as appropriate. They have developed foreign language communication skills at the B2 - C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, elementary didactic skills, information literacy and the basic skills necessary for employment in the labour market.

The qualification enables graduates to pursue professions such as:

  • Teaching assistant for German language teaching in all types of schools,
  • civil servant (foreign departments)
  • school administrative and methodological worker (running the language laboratory, managing the school library, preparing teaching materials, etc.)
  • editorial and intercultural worker
  • Worker in manufacturing companies and trading companies in positions requiring knowledge of the German language

Graduates of this field are sufficiently prepared to continue their studies at the third level of higher education.
