Expert lecture doc. Ing. Jana Pitekova, PhD. at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Business
Mrs. doc. Ing. Jana Piteková, PhD. currently works at the Department of Management of the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. She has been working on economics and travel expenses for a long time a business in which she and her husband also run their own business. She is a mother of four children. In 2022, she published a scientific monograph under the title: "Two worlds of tourism in Slovakia", which in an original way applies the knowledge of economics to the tourism industry as one
from important national economic sectors. In it, the author systematically describes two consecutive historical periods, namely from the second half of the 19th century to 1947 (market economy - first world) and from 1948 to 1989 (centrally controlled economy - second world). These are fundamentally different economic systems, the essence of which is explained by comments that are comprehensible even for laymen. It emphasizes the areas that connect both worlds - the desire to travel, learn, relax, because the beauty of tourism lies in the fact that it offers peace, knowledge, health and, at the same time, livelihood.
Also, in her lecture, which was well received by the participating students, especially the Tourism, Hotel and Spa study program, the associate professor presented in an understandable and original way a rare symbiosis of the theoretical knowledge of a university teacher with her own practical experience as an entrepreneur in the tourism industry. She captivated the students by admitting that she fell in love with economics at the age of 18, as well as with her husband, and she is faithful to both of her loves until now. She emphasized that her goal in writing the monograph, as well as in lecturing on difficult economic topics, was for students to perceive economics as a wonderful science that explains people's behavior, whether from the perspective of a household, a business, or of the state in diametrically different economic conditions and the uniqueness of tourism, because the desire to learn, travel, relax, and gain new energy accompanies us regardless of how economic relations are organized. The fact that she succeeded in arousing interest and possibly changing students' opinions on the approach to studying demanding profile subjects such as macroeconomics and microeconomics was evidenced by the students' interesting questions and long-lasting applause. We are glad that the associate professor also found time for our students and left us with a promise of future cooperation.
The expert lecture was carried out as one of the activities within the framework of the KEGA 005PU-4/2022 project "Innovation of the study program Tourism, hotel and spa industry in the first degree of study in the field of study Economics and Management".
