Master´s Study Program: Social work
Graduate profile
Graduates of the master's study know the theory and practice of social work in its interdisciplinary and intersectoral contexts thoroughly. The acquired knowledge and skills are used within the specialized field of performance and management of social work.
They are ready for:
- socio-administrative activities at individual levels of public administration,
- specialized social-legal counseling,
- social diagnostics and forecasting,
- social prevention, social and legal protection and screening,
- other forms of social intervention (e.g. crisis intervention, fieldwork, resocialization, negotiation and representation of the client, etc.)
- the implementation and coordination of social services,
- the use of research, programming and design results in social work,
- active participation in the development of strategic and conceptual documents in the specific field at various levels.
They are able:
- to identify the nature of the social problems of individuals, groups and communities on the theoretical level and in practice,
- to specify, design, implement and maintain comprehensive integrated solutions including macro, meso and microenvironmental determinants,
- to apply the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the field of social work and other disciplines (especially sociology, psychology, pedagogy, law, economics, public policy, ethics) to solve systemic problems in the field of social policy and work and on specific daily life situations,
- to work in a broad area of the public and private sphere at family - municipality - region – society level
- to apply coordination skills to institutional or inter-institutional and interdisciplinary teams,
- -to keep in touch with the current developments in their field, organize their own learning and development and continuance of improving their own professional status.
- to systemically support the development of social work as a practical discipline,
- to initiate and promote social changes at different levels of government but also in the work of employers or other socially relevant subjects,
- to implement complex solutions, use modern methods and resources, including the latest ICT,
- to work in project teams to developing, introducing, implementing and validating pilot solutions,
- be guided by appropriate practices in accordance with the professional, legal and ethical framework of the discipline,
- to to prevent discrimination in their practice and to respect the principles of equal opportunities,
- to cooperate actively in scientific and research activities in the field of social work or in other relevant fields.
Graduates:
- understand the specifics (including cultural) clientele of social work (eg elderly, dependent, unemployed, socially excluded, migrants, people with disabilities, the homeless, etc.)
- understand personal experience and motivations,
- are sensitive to prejudice and they support diversity,
- have an in-depth knowledge of the role of state administration, public authorities, self-government bodies and non-state subjects in social policy,
- have an in-depth knowledge of corporate social work and social work performed in other sectors (eg education, health services, law),
- they understand the foundation of social work in national and international social policy.
They will acquire full secondary education in the department of social work with a specific focus on specific target groups, social risks and activities in public administration.
Master´s Study Program: Ethics - Social Work
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Ethics - Social Work field of study (master’s degree) have a cross-sectional knowledge from the Ethics - Social Work field of study with a focus on application in a specialized field, including the recognition of its wider contexts. Graduates are competent to use and integrate the acquired knowledge in situational analysis and to apply them according to their acquired skills in solving moral and social conflicts. They can competently solve specialized tasks and coordinate specific activities, organize, lead and bear responsibility for the team work and its results. Graduates are competent to apply their knowledge and skills in challenging and problematic environment, to combine knowledge and manage the complexity of situations. They are able to bear social and ethical responsibility in solving problems. They know the theoretical concepts and methods of social work, they have knowledge about economics and legislation of the social sphere, they know the methods of social sphere management and can analyze the social situation in a given locality or region, to propose, adopt and implement conceptual solutions to social problems, to cooperate with law enforcement, health service, education and psychological and pedagogical counseling, to participate in solving issues of quality of life and socio-environmental problems, to address issues of minorities, especially Roma citizens, to solve the problems of family policy and family life, poverty, homelessness, prostitution, drug addiction and other sociopathological phenomena, both in residential and field social work, to independently plan and organize social assistance and social service activities. Graduates are competent to actively organize and coordinate the work of expert teams in professional areas in preparation of ethical codes, to guide the work of ethics committees, to manage and implement ethical audit. They are competent to shape moral attitudes of the public through the management of the third sector activities.
Definition of areas for graduate´s application: in state administration institutions, public institutions and self-governments, in bodies, groups or professions aimed at preparing, securing and coordinating the activities of codified ethics for the needs of performance and management of social work (e.g. in the preparation of ethical codes, in ethical commissions or ethical audits), in state and non-state social care facilities for children, youth, adults or elderly people, in associations and foundations focusing on community-based social work, in other institutions for mediating personal and material assistance to people in need and to help socially dependent, disabled, unemployed, lonely, etc., in the area of community, regional and national development and planning.
Master´s Study Program: Teaching of Social Work
Graduate profile
Graduates of Master's degree in the field of Teaching of Social Work know the theory and practice of social work in its interdisciplinary and intersectoral contexts, have knowledge of the tasks of state administration, public institutions, self-government bodies and non-state subjects in the field of social policy and work and they have competences in the field of education (social work, social services, social counseling and others) as well as competencies and knowledge in the field of social work in the school environment (school social work). The acquired knowledge and skills are used in the specialized field of performance and management of social work, especially in the school environment (school social work), but primarily as teachers of vocational subjects (social work, social services, social counseling etc.) at secondary schools - at Business Academies and Pedagogical and Social Academies.
Graduates are ready for:
- pedagogical activity (teaching) in the field of vocational subjects (social work, social services, social counseling, etc.)
- school social work,
- socio-administrative activities at individual levels of government,
- specialized social-legal counseling,
- social diagnosis and forecasting of the social needs of people,
- social prevention, social and law protection and screening,
- other forms of social intervention (e.g. crisis intervention, field work, resocialization, negotiation and representation of the client / s, assistance to citizens in material and social need, etc.)
- the implementation and coordination of social services for different target groups,
- use of research results in the field of social work,
- programming and planning in social work,
- Active participation in the development of strategic and conceptual documents in the field of social policy and work at different administrative levels.
Graduates are able:
- to teach the vocational subjects of social work, social services, social counseling and related subjects at secondary schools,
- to carry out school social work,
- to identify the nature of the social problem on the theoretical level, but also in practice,
- to apply the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the field of social work and other disciplines (especially sociology, psychology, pedagogy, nursing, law, economics, demography, public policy, ethics) to solve systemic problems in social policy and work,
- to apply acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to specific daily life situations,
- to work in a broad area of the public and private spheres at the family - municipality - region – society levels,
- to apply coordination skills in the institutional or inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary teams,
- to keep in touch with current developments in their field, organize their own learning and development and continuance in improving their professional status,
- to systemically support the development of social work as a practical discipline,
- to initiate and promote social change at different levels of governance but also in the work of employers or other socially relevant subjects,
- to cooperate actively in scientific and research activities in the field of social work or in other relevant fields.
Theoretical knowledge:
- they gained an in-depth knowledge of the theory and practice of social work towards individual target groups and areas of social risk management,
- they understand the specifics (including cultural) of social work clientele (e.g. children, the elderly, people with disabilities, addicted, the homeless, unemployed, socially excluded, migrant);
- they understand personal experience and motivations,
- they are sensitive to prejudice and they support diversity,
- they have an in-depth knowledge of the role of state administration, public authorities, self-government bodies and non-state subjects in social policy,
- they have an in-depth knowledge of corporate social work and social work done in other departments (mainly in the area of education and social work);
- they understand the foundation of social work in national and international social policy,
- they know the didactics of social work,
- they know the basics of sociology, philosophy, law, political science and economics and are able to process them didactically,
- they know the specifics of psychology and pedagogy necessary for the position of a teacher of general subjects and a teacher of vocational subjects,
- they understand the developmental specifics of the different age categories of pupils and their educational needs,
- they understand the social, psychological and educational specifics of pupils with special needs (in social, health, economic, cultural field).
Practical Skills:
- the ability to analyze and understand the essence of individual, group and community problems,
- the ability to specify, design, implement and maintain comprehensive integrated solutions including macro, meso and microenvironmental determinants,
- critical judgment ability across a range of social work issues,
- the ability to implement complex solutions, using modern methods and resources, including the latest ICT,
- working in project teams to develop, implement and validate pilot solutions,
- promoting the specified aspects of the quality of social interventions,
- be guided by appropriate practices in accordance with the professional, legal and ethical framework of the discipline,
- prevention of discrimination in their practice and observing the principle of equal opportunities,
- Didactically elaborating and presenting of professional knowledge in the sphere of social work and social and human sciences,
- Communication with the external environment of the school (family, social institutions and organizations, medical facilities, psychological and pedagogical facilities) in order to meet the needs of pupils.
Definition of areas of graduate´s application:
- in the environment of secondary vocational schools as a teacher of vocational subjects (social work, social services, social counseling),
- in primary and secondary school environment as a school social worker,
- in the institutions of state administration, public institutions and local authorities,
- in state and non-state social care facilities for children, young people, adults or elderly people,
- in associations and foundations focusing on socially beneficial social activity,
- in other institutions for mediating personal and material help to people in need and helping socially disadvantaged, disabled, unemployed, lonely, etc.,
- in the field of community development and community planning,
- in the preparation of strategic and conceptual documents at different administrative levels,
- in healthcare facilities and within school social work,
- in corporate social work.
Graduate will acquire full second higher education in the field of Teaching of Social Work as well as social work with a specific focus on school social work and specific target groups, social risks and public administration activities.
