Dr. Swantje Martach
Swantje Martach, German of origin, recently defended her PhD in Philosophy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which was funded by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (major German newspaper). Therein she elaborated a new materialist queering of the concept of the “thing“ by means of the everyday clothing practice. Since 2018, Swantje is a regular contributor to the Swiss Portal of Philosophy (www.philosophie.ch). Since 2020, she is part of the philosophical section of the artistic/theoretic initiative of New Dawn that speculates future aesthetics of the glove as “tool to touch“ (www.newdawn.digital). In 2021, she became a member of the editorial board of the journal IMAGE, issued by the German Society for Interdisciplinary Image Theory (GIB). Since recently, she entertains an Instagram account (@swantjemartach) on which she grants insights into her works and thoughts.
Swantje’s publications include: “El carácter genuino del arte como causa de su valor de autonomía“ (in Autonomía y Valor del Arte, Comares 2018), “Being-in-Clothes-in-the-World“ (in Cultures, Fashion and Society’s Notebook 2018), “Nachhaltigkeit durch Kunden(ein)bindung in der Bekleidungsindustrie“ (ca.: “Reaching Sustainability via Customer Integration in the Fashion Industry“, in Herausforderungen für das Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement, Springer 2019), and “The Matter of Touch: An Intra-View From Within New Dawn“ (forthcoming in Matter 2021).
In 2019, Swantje realized a research stay at the University of the Arts London, especially the London College of Fashion, which was funded by a travel scholarship of the German FAZIT-Stiftung.
During Summer 2021, Swantje realised a research stay at the Institute of Aesthetics, Arts, and Culture at the University of Presov, enabled by the National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic. Some of the outcomes are listed below.
